About the client

High Court of Malaysia

A central component of Malaysia’s judiciary system, presiding over significant civil and criminal cases while upholding the rule of law across the country.
The project
For seven years (2014–2021), Maven International served as the official court interpretation provider for the High Court of Malaysia, facilitating multilingual communication in over 40 languages, including rare dialects such as Twi, Ewe, Rohingya, and others. This long-term engagement required qualified interpreters who met clearance requirements, underwent specialized training, and held valid visas, as well as efficient logistics protocols to deploy professionals across Malaysia—often on short notice
The challenge
Rare dialects: Many cases required interpreters for uncommon dialects, including African and Asian linguistic variations that are not spoken at all in Malaysia. This posed a significant challenge in ensuring both linguistic accuracy and legal compliance in a judicial setting.

For some rare African and Asian dialects, only a handful of native speakers were based in Malaysia. Finding qualified court interpreters with the necessary linguistic skills required a proactive sourcing strategy, careful vetting while ensuring compliance with work permit and security clearance regulations.

Short-Notice Assignments – Requests often came last-minute, requiring rapid deployment of interpreters across all Malaysian states, including East Malaysian states.

High Workload & Accuracy Demands – The project involved up to 800 interpretation hours per month, with minimal tolerance for errors in high-stakes legal proceedings.

Security & Legal Compliance – Every interpreter had to pass strict security clearances, maintain a legal work permit, and meet the court’s rigorous professional standards.
The outcome
Robust Interpreter Network – Maven International built and maintained an extensive pool of qualified court interpreters covering both common and rare languages, ensuring availability even on short notice.
Streamlined Logistics & Coordination – With a centralized scheduling system, we efficiently allocated interpreters, balancing availability, specialization, suitability and urgency.

Judicial Expertise & Accuracy Assurance – Our interpreters underwent court interpretation training, both in-house and through external programs, ensuring they understood court procedures, terminology, and ethical standards.

Despite the high volume of cases, we kept the error rate below 1%. Compliance & Professionalism – All interpreters were legally authorized to work in Malaysia, and we adhered to all judicial protocols and security measures.

Outcome
From 2014 to 2021, Maven International successfully supported the Malaysian judiciary with expert court interpretation services. Despite complex logistical demands, language diversity, and stringent legal requirements, we consistently delivered accurate, timely, and compliant interpretation.

Although the collaboration ended due to COVID-19 restrictions and a decrease in case volume, our record of excellence remains a benchmark in Malaysia’s legal interpretation sector.
