Project
On-Site & Remote Interpretation support for IJM operations across country
Challenge
Emotionally charged cases in unpredictable environments and rare dialect sourcing.
About the client
International Justice Mission
Operating in nearly 20 countries, IJM combats violence and exploitation of people in poverty, working with local authorities to rescue victims, secure justice, and strengthen public justice systems.

The project
Since 2021, Maven International has supported IJM’s operations in Malaysia, providing CI for interviews at shelters and police stations.
The challenge
Interpreting in challenging environments such as police stations, shelters, and rare or remote locations required adaptability to unpredictable, often high-stress settings. Conversations were emotionally charged, involving survivors of trauma and sensitive legal or personal disclosures. Interpreters had to maintain neutrality and emotional resilience while applying trauma-sensitive communication techniques. Additionally, some cases involved rare dialects spoken by victims, making interpreter selection and preparation especially complex.

The outcome
Maven provided trauma-informed interpreters capable of handling emotionally sensitive cases. Rare dialect interpreters—including Bengali interpreter and Burmese interpreter roles—were sourced successfully, allowing IJM to conduct critical interviews without language barriers. Client satisfaction with our delivery and coordination led to continued partnership expansion.
